Preparation Time

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes

  • Bake Time: 18–20 minutes

  • Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheese blend)

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh herbs (like parsley, chives, or basil)

  • 3/4 cup whole milk or buttermilk

  • 1 egg (for egg wash – optional, for a golden top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder (if using).

  3. Cut in butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Add cheese and herbs: Stir in the shredded cheese and chopped herbs until evenly distributed.

  5. Add milk: Pour in the milk (or buttermilk) and mix gently with a fork until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.

  6. Shape the biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a 1-inch thick round. Use a round cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

  7. Optional – Egg wash: Beat the egg and brush it lightly over the tops for a golden finish.

  8. Bake: Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the biscuits are cooked through.

  9. Cool slightly: Transfer to a wire rack to cool for a few minutes. Enjoy warm!

These Savory Cheese & Herb Biscuits are the kind of comfort food that speaks to your soul. Crisp on the outside, tender inside, and bursting with cheesy, herby goodness — they’re the perfect sidekick to soups, stews, or your morning coffee. Make a batch and watch them disappear in minutes (if they even make it to the table!). Don’t forget to share with someone who loves homemade goodness as much as you do.
