Savory Ground Beef Skillet Hash

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (choose your preferred fat content)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 2 medium potatoes, diced (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • Chopped fresh parsley or chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Potatoes (Optional):
    • If using potatoes, wash and dice them into small cubes.
    • Parboil the diced potatoes in boiling water for 5 minutes to soften them slightly. Drain and set aside.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef:
    • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the cooking oil.
    • Add the ground beef to the hot skillet and let it cook for about 2 minutes.
    • Break up the beef into smaller pieces using a spatula or wooden spoon.
  3. Season the Beef:
    • Sprinkle the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper over the beef.
    • Stir well to combine all the seasonings with the meat.
  4. Add the Potatoes:
    • Add the diced potatoes to the skillet with the ground beef.
    • Stir everything together, spreading it out evenly in the skillet.
  5. Cook Thoroughly:
    • Let the mixture cook undisturbed for about 5 minutes to allow the potatoes to brown.
    • Stir and flip the mixture occasionally until the potatoes are crispy and cooked through, and the beef is fully browned—about 10-15 minutes.
  6. Serve:
    • Transfer the savory ground beef hash to plates.
    • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or chives if desired.
    • Enjoy it as a hearty meal on its own or with a side of eggs for breakfast.
