Simple Focaccia Bread Recipe

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet instant yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil, plus more for drizzling
  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
  • Optional: rosemary, garlic powder, or other herbs for topping

Equipment:

  • Large bowl
  • 9×13 inch baking pan
  • Brush for olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Yeast Mixture:
    • In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the Dough:
    • To the yeast mixture, add 1 cup of flour, olive oil, and salt, mixing until combined. Gradually add the remaining flour until a dough begins to form.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the Pan and Second Rise:
    • Oil a 9×13 inch baking pan and place the dough in the pan. Stretch the dough to fit the pan. Cover and let rise for another 20 minutes.
  6. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
  7. Add Toppings and Bake:
    • Dimply the dough with your fingertips. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with coarse sea salt and any other toppings like rosemary.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool and Serve:
    • Remove the focaccia from the oven and let cool slightly before cutting into squares.
