Hawaiian Roll French Toast

Hawaiian Roll French Toast:

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of Hawaiian rolls (12 rolls)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for cooking)
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) for topping
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Maple syrup (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Rolls:
    • Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half, creating top and bottom halves. If desired, you can leave them whole for thicker French toast slices.
  2. Make the Custard:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  3. Soak the Rolls:
    • Dip each half of the Hawaiian rolls into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. Allow the rolls to soak for a few seconds, so they absorb the custard.
  4. Cook the French Toast:
    • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of butter and let it melt, coating the surface of the pan.
    • Place the soaked Hawaiian roll halves onto the skillet or griddle. Cook each side for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Work in batches if necessary, adding more butter as needed.
  5. Serve:
    • Once the French toast is golden brown and cooked through, transfer to a serving plate.
    • Top with fresh berries and dust with powdered sugar.
    • Serve with a side of maple syrup if desired.

Enjoy your delicious Hawaiian Roll French Toast!
