  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

For the Caramelized Onions:

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional)

For the Secret Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

For Assembling the Patty Melts:

  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened
  • 8 slices Swiss or cheddar cheese

Preparation Steps

Step 1: Prepare the Caramelized Onions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat and add butter.
  2. Once melted, add sliced onions and stir to coat in butter.
  3. Sprinkle with sugar and salt, stirring occasionally for 15-20 minutes until onions turn golden brown and soft.
