Crispy Vegetable Cabbage Rolls

 

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 head of cabbage, finely shredded
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, grated (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (optional)
  • 2-3 tablespoons oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Vegetables:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the finely shredded cabbage, chopped green onions, and grated carrot (if using).
    • Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and soy sauce to the vegetables and mix well.
  2. Make the Batter:
    • In a separate small bowl, beat the egg and then add the flour and cornstarch. Mix until you have a smooth batter.
    • Pour the batter over the vegetable mixture and mix until the vegetables are evenly coated.
  3. Shape the Rolls:
    • Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into cylindrical rolls. Make sure they are compact so they hold their shape during frying.
  4. Fry the Rolls:
    • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
    • Once the oil is hot, carefully place the rolls in the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
    • Fry the rolls for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  5. Drain and Serve:
    • Once the rolls are cooked, remove them from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
    • Serve the rolls hot, possibly with a dipping sauce like soy sauce or sweet chili sauce.
