Hawaiian Roll French Toast:
Ingredients:
- 1 package of Hawaiian rolls (12 rolls)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for cooking)
- Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) for topping
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Maple syrup (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Rolls:
- Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half, creating top and bottom halves. If desired, you can leave them whole for thicker French toast slices.
- Make the Custard:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Soak the Rolls:
- Dip each half of the Hawaiian rolls into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. Allow the rolls to soak for a few seconds, so they absorb the custard.
- Cook the French Toast:
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of butter and let it melt, coating the surface of the pan.
- Place the soaked Hawaiian roll halves onto the skillet or griddle. Cook each side for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Work in batches if necessary, adding more butter as needed.
- Serve:
- Once the French toast is golden brown and cooked through, transfer to a serving plate.
- Top with fresh berries and dust with powdered sugar.
- Serve with a side of maple syrup if desired.
