old-fashioned fudge:
Ingredients:
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsalted butter
- ⅔ cup evaporated milk
- 12 oz semisweet chocolate chips
- 7 oz marshmallow creme
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Optional: 1 cup chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pecans)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Pan: Line a 9×13 inch baking dish with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Lightly grease the foil or paper to prevent sticking.
- Mix the Ingredients: In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, butter, and evaporated milk. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugar.
- Boil the Mixture: Once the mixture reaches a rolling boil, continue to cook for about 4-5 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent burning. You want the mixture to reach the soft ball stage (234-240°F / 112-115°C on a candy thermometer).
- Add Chocolate and Marshmallow Creme: Remove the saucepan from heat. Immediately stir in the chocolate chips until melted and smooth. Then, add the marshmallow creme and vanilla extract, stirring until well combined. If using nuts, stir them in now.
- Pour into Pan: Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly with a spatula.
- Cool and Set: Allow the fudge to cool at room temperature for about 2 hours, or until fully set. You can also refrigerate it to speed up the setting process.
- Cut and Serve: Once the fudge is set, lift it out of the pan using the foil or parchment paper. Cut into small squares and serve.
Enjoy your homemade old-fashioned fudge!
