How to Make a Death by Chocolate Bundt Cake

If you’re a chocolate lover, a Death by Chocolate bundt cake is the ultimate indulgence. This rich and moist cake is layered with chocolate in every bite, from the cake itself to the luscious glaze and chocolate chip topping. Here’s how to create this decadent dessert.

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Topping:

  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pan:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan thoroughly to prevent the cake from sticking.
  2. Make the Cake Batter:
    • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
    • In another bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix just until combined.
    • Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin, which is normal.
    • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  3. Bake the Cake:
    • Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
    • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
    • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Prepare the Glaze:
    • In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the chocolate chips, heavy cream, and butter. Stir continuously until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
    • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Glaze and Decorate the Cake:
    • Once the cake has cooled, place it on a serving platter. Pour the chocolate glaze over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.
    • Immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the glaze before it sets to ensure they stick.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Allow the glaze to set for about 15 minutes before slicing. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream for an extra treat.

Tips for Success

  • Room Temperature Ingredients: Ensure the butter, eggs, and buttermilk are at room temperature for a smoother batter and even baking.
  • Don’t Overmix: Mix the batter just until the ingredients are combined to avoid a dense cake.
  • Cool Before Glazing: Make sure the cake is completely cool before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.
  • Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate for longer shelf life.

This Death by Chocolate bundt cake is a chocoholic’s dream, perfect for special occasions or any time you need a chocolate fix. Enjoy each rich and indulgent bite!
