Cream-Filled Donuts
Ingredients:
For the Donuts:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup whole milk, warmed
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Cream Filling:
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Sugar Coating:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until smooth.
- Gradually add the remaining flour to form a soft dough.
- Knead the Dough:
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Shape and Fry the Donuts:
- Punch down the dough and turn onto a floured surface. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.
- Cut out donuts using a donut cutter or a round cutter. Re-roll scraps as needed.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry donuts a few at a time until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Prepare the Cream Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Fill the Donuts:
- Once the donuts are cool enough to handle, use a piping bag fitted with a small round tip to fill each donut with the cream.
- Coat the Donuts:
- Roll the filled donuts in granulated sugar to coat them evenly.
- Serve:
- Enjoy the cream-filled donuts while they are fresh!
