Fluffy Homemade Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
    • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar.
  2. Cut in the Butter:
    • Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients.
    • Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the Milk:
    • Gradually add the milk to the flour and butter mixture, stirring gently with a fork until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this will make the biscuits tough.
  4. Knead the Dough:
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
    • Gently knead the dough a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a rectangle about 1/2-inch thick.
  5. Cut the Biscuits:
    • Use a biscuit cutter or a round cookie cutter to cut out biscuits from the dough. Re-roll the scraps as needed.
    • Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Brush with Egg Wash:
    • Brush the tops of the biscuits with the beaten egg to give them a golden-brown finish.
  7. Bake the Biscuits:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Serve:
    • Allow the biscuits to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

Enjoy your fluffy homemade biscuits warm with butter, honey, or your favorite jam! These are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a side for any meal.
