Homemade Donut Holes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Additional granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for coating (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon (if using).
  2. Prepare the Wet Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Combine the Ingredients:
    • Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients.
    • Stir until just combined. The batter should be thick but not too stiff.
  4. Heat the Oil:
    • In a deep pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the Donut Holes:
    • Using a small cookie scoop or a spoon, carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil.
    • Fry the dough balls in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
    • Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through, turning occasionally for even cooking.
    • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. Coat the Donut Holes:
    • If desired, roll the warm donut holes in a mixture of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve warm and enjoy!
